At just under three years old, Rivershore Resort may still be in its infancy, but it’s wasted no time racking up near-perfect reviews and setting a new standard in holiday park accommodation. We found out the where, what and why from co-owner Bernie McGovern.

Where is your park and what accommodation do you offer?

Our park is on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland on the banks of the Maroochydore River in Diddillibah, which is between Maroochydore and Bli Bli. We offer 80 powered sites and 15 safari (glamping) tents. We also have a 100 seat restaurant and bar called Driftwood, as well as a 25m pool, waterslide, boat ramp and jetty, jumping pillow, playgrounds and more.

What three words best describe your park? Spacious, relaxed, sophisticated.

What can visitors do at your park? Basically, we really want people to be able to relax. The atmosphere we’ve created allows parents to have a glass of wine or a coffee while watching their children in the pool or the playground.

The whole resort centres around the restaurant and the pool, so the main pastime for people is relaxing by the pool or at the restaurant with a magazine or a book, generally with a coffee, wine or craft beer in their hand.

We’re located on the river so there’s also plenty of opportunity for kayaking or stand up paddle boarding, and fishing is very popular. We have a boat ramp so some people bring their jet skis or their tinnies.

For the kids, the waterslide and the pool are definitely the most popular – it’s heated so it’s used all year round. We’ve also got the jumping pillow, playgrounds, mini golf and a little outdoor movie each night. For adults, we run yoga and aqua aerobics all year round as well, which are really popular. We also provide a pop-up day spa during the peak periods.

What makes your region special? It sounds a bit cliche but what makes the area really special is our climate. One of the main reasons people holiday on the Sunshine Coast is the beautiful weather all year round.

What can visitors do in the area?

The most obvious would be the famous beaches and national parks – we’re only seven minutes from Maroochydore Beach and about ten minutes from Mooloolaba Beach. To the north you’ve got Noosa and beautiful Noosa National Park, and a little bit further north again is Fraser Island. If you go to the west you’ve got the hinterland of Maleny, Montville and Mapleton which is only ten minutes from our resort.

There’s loads to do, whether you want paid activities like Australia Zoo or Underwater World, or a nature-based experience such as hiking up Mount Coolum or seeing the hinterland’s waterfalls.

What’s your favourite thing to do in the area?

I like to get outside, I’ve grown up surfing, so a day down at the beach is definitely my favourite thing to do. A perfect day might include going down to the beach with the kids in the morning and then having a hit of golf with some friends in the afternoon. Then I’d finish it off with a beer around the pool at Rivershore Resort.
