The New South Wales coast is incredible. Clean, ocean beaches with soft, white sand that seems to be never-ending. My partner James and I live in New South Wales, making it easy to travel to visit these beaches whenever we like. While we’d love to put every single beach in New South Wales on this list, we’ve culled it down to the below 10! These are some of our favourite spots, to relax, take aerial photos and just enjoy a few days away.
Number One Beach, Seal Rocks
If you’ve been following our adventures, you’ll know Seal Rocks is our FAVOURITE spot in New South Wales. It’s the place we got engaged! The relaxed beachside vibes are unlike any other beach we’ve visited. If you’re lucky enough to visit during the week, you’ll get to experience the untouched feeling this beach has. There’s a hidden beach to discover, impressive headland views and Treachery Beach is just a stone’s throw away.
Hyams Beach, Jervis Bay
While we’ll probably cop some flack for naming this beach, we’ve come to the conclusion that almost everybody has heard of the beach with the “whitest sand in the world”. This beach for us is one we love visiting at sunrise. It’s so peaceful. The colour of the water (and obviously the sand) are the draw cards for us. We normally stay here until 9am, before heading off to explore one of the other beaches the Booderee National Park has to offer. (You’ll have to discover these ones for yourself!)
Delicate Nobby, Crescent Head
Crescent Head is known for its beautiful beaches and is definitely a busy spot in the summer. However, if you know where to escape these crowds, you’ll still be able to enjoy this little slice of paradise on the Macleay Valley Coast. When we visit this region we head off straight down the dirt road to a beach called Delicate Nobby. It’s pristine waters are home to playful pods of dolphins and awesome surf spots.
Little Beach, Scotts Head
The coastal town of Scotts Head is the perfect getaway if you’re looking to relax beachside. Little Beach is located just south of the main beach, around the headland. It’s more secluded and doesn’t bring the crowds. It also offers a good surf break. The view from the top is pretty amazing too. A great spot for whale watching.
Grassy Beach, Grassy Head
Just down the road from Little Beach, you’ll find Grassy Beach! A nice long stretch of sand where you’ll be guaranteed a space to yourself. We actually visited Grassy Beach for the first time in winter but it’s just as beautiful as in the summertime. We love sitting at the south end, just by the pandanus tree.
Culburra Beach
This gem is located on the south coast of NSW. It’s a short drive from Jervis Bay making it the perfect beach for a day trip! The surf at Culburra can get pretty awesome as well. We love it here as it’s a quieter spot. It’s also a nice spot to just relax at the beach tables and enjoy a beer as the sun goes down for the day.
Broken Head Beach, Byron Bay
The headland here is a spot we love to go for sunrise, to watch the waves roll in and the dolphins leap out of the ocean. (If you want to see dolphins in Byron Bay, this is the spot to be). The way the water glistens here is like no other! If you keep walking around the bush track you’ll uncover a bunch of hidden beaches as well!
Seven Mile Beach, Lennox Head
As its name states, this is a long beach! In our opinion, the best part of it is the very north end. This part of the beach is actually accessed via Broken Head in Byron Bay. You head up Seven Mile Beach Road (a gravel road) and drive all the way to the very end. You’ll come out to a secluded part of Lennox Head with no one in sight!
Tip: If you’re there in the early morning keep an eye out for the wallabies hiding in the bush.
Arrawarra Beach, Arrawarra
A little lesser known, Arrawarra Beach can be found just north of Woolgoolga. It’s an awesome surf spot which still has that small town feeling to it. You can drive around on the weekend and the streets are empty. Unheard of right? Arrawarra Headlands also a nice spot to park up, picnic and enjoy the view!
Little Narrabeen, Northern Beaches
This list wouldn’t be complete without the mention of a beach from our hometown. Growing up on the Northern Beaches we’ve been able to experience all of the beaches from Manly to Palm Beach. One of our favourites would have to be Little Narrabeen. As this is an unpatrolled beach the vibe is always much quieter and relaxed. The best surf spot is usually the north end, with the south end offering a rock platform you can walk around at low tide.
